Izdavačka kuća ALEXANDRIA PRESS osnovana je 30. septembra 1999. godine u Beogradu pod pokroviteljstvom nedeljnika Vreme. Rad izdavačke kuće je nastavak aktivnosti započete izdavanjem časopisa Biblioteka ALEXANDRIA. Časopis je pokrenut 9. aprila 1998. godine kao specijalno izdanje nedeljnika Vreme, a podržali su ga Open Society Institute - Budapest, Fond za otvoreno društvo - Beograd i Fund for Central and East European Book Project - Amsterdam. Alexandria Press i Biblioteka ALEXANDRIA imaju za cilj da afirmišu umetničko, teorijsko i publicističko stvaralaštvo u internacionalnim okvirima. Alexandria Press i Biblioteka ALEXANDRIA zalažu se za vrednosti građanskog društva i principe jednakih mogućnosti i prava bez obzira na nacionalnost, veru, rasu i pol.

The Independent Publishing House ALEXANDRIA PRESS was established on the 30th of September 1999 in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia, under the auspices of the Belgrade weekly magazine Vreme. The work of the publishing house is a continuation of activities which were started by the publishing of the magazine Biblioteka Alexandria. The magazine was started on 9th of April 1998, as a special edition of the Vreme magazine, and received support from the Open Society Institute - Budapest, from the Fond for Open Society - Belgrade, and from the Central and East European Book Project - Amsterdam. Alexandria Press and Biblioteka Alexandria are actively advocating the values of civil society and for the principles of equal opportunity for everyone regardless of ethnic origin, religious affiliation, race and gender.
